Presto Presse-Vertriebs AG, a subsidiary of Swiss Post, has to reduce the number of its employees in Biel BE. 48 employees have to leave after just four months.
Presto employees have been distributing the advertising magazine Consumo in the Biel region since September last year. The crowd was so large here and there that the newspapers were not distributed on time, according to the Post. That’s why Presto created a day tour as a solution.
Other regions also affected
This day tour was “economically unsustainable,” wrote the Post, as a result of which the Post should deliver the magazine in the Biel region from April 1st. This is already the case in other regions.
The 48 employees affected do this work on a small part-time basis. In total, these represent 8.5 full-time positions at Presto, which are expected to be eliminated.
Syndicom demands continued employment of those who have been dismissed
The Syndicom trade union has reacted to the possible job cuts and is calling for the people concerned to continue working at Presto and for a “progressive” social plan.
The mail carriers concerned were informed of the situation on Wednesday, according to the Post communiqué. A consultation process, in which Syndicom is also involved, runs until January 31st. (SDA/what)
