The current growth rate of around 20 percent per year is to be continued in this way. This year, as a reaction to the shortage of skilled workers, the company also wants to train watchmakers for the first time, says Kern. “We are now in the process of expanding the training programs and will initially be training seven apprentices this year.”
For the next few months, Kern expects growth in business with mainland China. Consumption there had slowed in the past two years. “I assume that there is an enormous need to catch up and that we will feel it quickly.”
According to the company boss, China is the second largest buyer of Swiss luxury watches after the USA and is therefore an important market. Kern does not believe that there will be Chinese mass tourism in Switzerland again like before the corona pandemic. Because China wants to boost consumption in its own country.
Kern rules out a return to Russia. “Russia accounted for 1.5 percent of our sales and is therefore negligible.” In China it is different. (SDA)
