More expensive than ever
Car prices will rise to record levels in 2022
Anyone who bought a new or used car last year had to spend significantly more money than in 2021. According to the advertising portal AutoScout24, vehicle prices have risen sharply – especially for electric cars.

Specifically, the prices for a new vehicle rose by an average of 9 percent year-on-year to almost CHF 56,000. For used cars, the plus was even 15 percent at an average price of 30,415 francs, as the portal belonging to the Swiss Marketplace Group announced on Wednesday.
The sums demanded for the cars had risen to a “record level”. The price explosion also affected “all segments and types of fuel”, with the strongest plus being registered for electric cars. These have become more expensive by up to 20 percent.
The record prices would also be related to the fact that car production has not yet reached the pre-crisis level since the corona pandemic. The offer on the AutoScout24 website has also become increasingly scarce, it is said.
Specifically, 8 percent fewer new or used vehicles were advertised on the online marketplace than in the previous year. In the second half of 2022, however, a growing number of advertisements were registered.
And an improvement is not yet in sight, at least in terms of prices: “Prices are likely to remain at a high level,” is the forecast. However, any further price increases should be more moderate than in the last two years.
On the one hand, it can be expected that demand will fall in view of the rising cost of living, since drivers are more likely to opt for repairs than for buying a new or used car. In addition, inflation will continue to have a major effect on vehicle prices.
