Thailand fears flood of travelers from China
Thailand lives to a large extent from tourism. The relief was correspondingly great when, after the end of the Corona crisis, travelers from abroad finally came back to the country. You don’t want to do without this again bubbling source of income so quickly. So on Sunday the clear announcement: Thailand is tightening the entry rules again and requires proof of vaccination.
Everything is different again this Monday, as the renowned “Bangkok Post” reports. The government is repealing the stricter entry regulations. Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul (56) is reacting to violent reactions from circles in the tourism industry. He justifies his regression by saying that there is sufficiently high immunity to Covid-19 globally.
3000 Chinese entered the country
The main reason for the stricter rules was the situation in China, where corona infections are increasing massively. At the same time, the travel restrictions for Chinese were lowered again. Thailand was afraid of a flood of travelers from the Middle Kingdom.
Tourist officials had warned over the weekend that stricter entry rules would deter many holidaymakers and stand in the way of the desired recovery of the Thai tourism industry. In addition, such a sudden rule change is harmful to Thailand’s image, emphasized the Phuket Tourism Association, for example.
