The Coop cooperative made 7.3 percent more sales in 2022.
Coop achieved total sales of 34.2 billion francs last year. This corresponds to an increase of a whopping 7.3 percent compared to the previous year, as stated in a statement on Thursday.
The growth of the cooperative group was primarily due to two factors: retail on the one hand and wholesale and production on the other. In retail, net sales rose by 1.6 percent to 19.9 billion Swiss francs. However, inflation – currently on everyone’s lips – did not leave Coop customers unaffected either. Excluding fuel, it was 1.2 percent.
No new record for the supermarkets
Looking only at the supermarkets, net sales came to 11.6 billion Swiss francs. It was thus slightly below the previous record years, when Coop had benefited greatly from the circumstances caused by the corona pandemic. However, Coop sold significantly more than in the pre-Corona year 2019.
Looking ahead, Coop expects a stable result for 2023 due to the strong competition and the associated price reductions. (SDA/kae)
