Galaxus also wants to gain a foothold in Italy in the neighboring country to the south.
The news that Digitec-Galaxus is expanding into France is just a week old. And the Migros subsidiary has followed suit: the online retailer also wants to establish itself in Italy.
Galaxus is now active in all of Switzerland’s neighboring countries. The market entry in Germany took place in 2018 and in Austria in 2021. The German business of Digitec-Galaxus describes the Migros Group on its website as “successful”. The logistics location in Krefeld was significantly expanded there in the last year in order to be able to cope with the demand.
This location also plays a role in the expansion to Italy. The orders from Italy are initially to be delivered via the logistics location in Krefeld. The delivery time throughout Italy is therefore between three and five days.
Deep goals for now
In France, Digitec-Galaxus wants to join the top tier of online retailers. So far, there is no comparable goal for the Italian expansion. The online retailer only announces that they want to “start small and agile” in Italy. However, deliveries are made throughout the country, “from Bolzano to Palermo”, as the media release says.
There is already a certain level of awareness through northern Italian cross-border commuters in Ticino. An expansion is also recommended for linguistic reasons. With the market entry in Italy, the already active Italian-speaking community will multiply in one fell swoop, the company promises.
In Switzerland, Digitec Galaxus achieved sales of 2.43 billion Swiss francs in 2022 with my range of over four million products. The next few months will show which product categories Italians will look for and buy online at Galaxus in the future. (SDA/rae)
