Bankruptcy record last year
More than 10,000 company bankruptcies for the first time
Last year there were more company bankruptcies in Switzerland than ever before. The number of private bankruptcies, on the other hand, fell slightly.
In 2022, more companies went bankrupt in Switzerland than ever before. The reason for this is also the state aid during the corona pandemic. (Iconic image)
With 10,126 company bankruptcies, the threshold of 10,000 bankruptcies was exceeded for the first time in one year, the creditors’ association Creditreform announced on Thursday. Compared to the previous year, this corresponds to an increase of almost 37 percent. Around two-thirds of the bankruptcies were due to insolvency, while around one-third were due to organizational deficiencies.
According to Creditreform, the figures can only be compared to a limited extent with the previous year. Because in the two Corona years 2020 and 2021, many bankruptcies of so-called “zombie companies”, which were already unavoidable at the time, were delayed by state support measures.
In December alone, the number of company bankruptcies rose by almost a third to 959 compared to the previous year.
