As has been the case for some time with Mobility vehicles, the Swisspass can now also be held up to the reader at ticket machines in train stations for payment, for example. (archive image)
The payment function can only be used with the latest generation of Swisspass cards that have been issued since December 2021, as Alliance Swisspass spokesman Thomas Ammann confirmed to the Keystone-SDA news agency in a report by the “Aargauer Zeitung” on Wednesday. If you have an older card, you will receive a new one after registering for the payment function.
The system has been in effect since the timetable change on December 11th. Before the function can be used, interested parties must register on the swisspass.ch/pay website. If you are of legal age and have been classified as solvent in the credit check, you can use the function and pay for your ticket later with a monthly invoice.
Those who do not have sufficient financial resources or are not of legal age must make do with the prepaid function and can use the Swisspass to pay as soon as money has been paid into a prepaid account.
GA travelcards, half-fare travelcards or group travelcards are loaded onto the red Swisspass in credit card format. The card can also be used in ski areas or for access to the Mobility car.
