The Splügen-Tambo ski area has to stop operating due to a lack of snow.

Hiking is now the order of the day for guests in Splügen GR: The Splügen-Tambo ski area below the Piz Tambo had to close on Monday due to a lack of snow. All seven plants in the area are idle. The “heavy rainfall and high temperatures” make it impossible for the mountain railways to continue preparing the slopes, as the railways write on their website. “20min” was the first to report about it.
On their website, the mountain railways actually advertise that the Splügen-Tambo ski area “is considered snow-sure” – the facilities start at 1484 meters above sea level and go up to 2215 meters. But snow security was once. With the mild temperatures, many mountain railways are currently having the greatest difficulty in maintaining their range of slopes.
What happens to paid ski school days and subscriptions?
Splügen-Tambo is not an isolated case. All slopes are also closed in the Sattel-Hochstuckli ski area on the border between the cantons of Zug and Schwyz, Blick reported. Many other mountain railways can only operate a fraction of the ski slopes.
In Sattel-Hochstuckli, those responsible try to keep the guests happy with winter hiking trails or the toboggan run. In Splügen, in addition to hiking trails, there are a number of cross-country ski trails available for guests as an alternative to skiing.
Great hope for the cold snap
“As soon as the temperatures allow snowmaking again or snow finally falls, we will rebuild the slopes as quickly as possible and resume operations,” write the mountain railways on their website.
But what happens to services that have already been paid for? Ski school hours will be refunded, as will online tickets purchased in advance and unused days for multi-day tickets. There is currently no entitlement to season tickets. If the unexpected event occurs that the ski area can no longer open this winter, guests will be granted a credit for next year’s subscription.
