Huawei is the leader in cellular technology. “Should politicians ban the use of Huawei hardware, we would of course stick to it,” said Fries in an interview with the “Neue Zürcher Zeitung”. The USA and subsequently also partner countries have excluded Huawei from expanding their 5G networks.
He is aware that working with a Chinese supplier involves a certain risk, said Fries. But: “A political decision would not come overnight. If necessary, we have enough capital to replace the Huawei components in the network.”
In Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK, Liberty Global’s subsidiaries recently raised prices. In Switzerland, price increases “cannot be ruled out,” says Fries. “Sunrise hasn’t decided anything yet.”
