Retail trade increased in 2022 mainly thanks to price increases (symbol image)
Last year, Swiss retailers specifically recorded a nominal increase in sales of 1.8 percent. In real terms, i.e. without inflation, it was only 0.2 percent, according to the provisional figures from the Federal Statistical Office (BFS) on Tuesday. In other words, higher prices were primarily responsible for the growth. According to the BFS, the figures are still provisional.
In December, on the other hand, sales fell by a nominal 0.2 percent compared to the same month last year (adjusted for sales and public holiday effects). Without price premiums (real), the declines even added up to a significant 2.8 percent.
