Above the roofs of Flims GR you can reside like a lady of the castle. The holiday apartment in the tower of the Waldhaus Flims extends over three floors. It is offered on the platform for private accommodation, E-domizil, for just over 1,000 francs per night. And is therefore one of the cheaper holiday apartments that rich holidaymakers can book in the Swiss mountains.
It’s also more expensive. For example in an Airbnb in Zermatt VS. The luxury chalet costs 3460 francs per night. There are five bedrooms and five bathrooms. Another chalet – also on Airbnb – with three bedrooms costs 1120 francs per night.
Vacation homes are popular
Expensive properties are mostly entire chalets or large villas for 10 people and more. The Airbnb platform has created a separate category for luxury homes – Airbnb Luxe. E-domizil also has a premium selection especially for this.
“Holiday homes continue to be one of the most popular types of accommodation for travel and are proving resilient despite the macroeconomic environment,” says Marcel Meek (43), head of E-domizil. The occupancy of the luxury properties as well as the other holiday homes is currently comparable to the previous year. “During the main holiday periods in the larger cantons, the offer in the classic holiday regions is already scarce,” says Meek.
Davos is in great demand
E-Domizil has identified the ten most popular travel destinations for the Swiss for the 2023 winter holidays for Blick. The platform for holiday homes evaluated over 400,000 search queries. Search queries from October 20, 2022 to January 18, 2023 with a booking period from February 1 to 28, 2023 were taken into account.
The race as the most popular destination this year is made by Davos GR. In second place is the Engadin GR, followed by Grindelwald BE in third place. Arosa GR, Lenzerheide GR and Adelboden BE took fourth to sixth place. Followed by Bettmeralp VS in seventh place, Scuol GR in eighth place and Saas-Fee VS in new place. St. Moritz GR brings up the rear in tenth place.
The cook comes with the chalet
In the luxury segment, the list of the most popular destinations looks different. According to E-domizil 2023, high-priced holiday accommodation is primarily sought after in the classic luxury destinations of St. Moritz, Zermatt VS and Gstaad BE. “In German-speaking Switzerland, Davos, Grindelwald and Arosa are popular,” says Meek.
Luxury properties usually differ from the cheaper holiday homes by additional services. For example, rich guests in the expensive Airbnbs can have their bread rolls delivered in the morning, use a cleaning service during their stay, or book their own cook.
