Ascension in the coming week is a steep template for a short trip to neighboring countries. Adding a few bridging days means nothing stands in the way of bathing fun in the Mediterranean – despite the rush of bookings. “Anyone planning the Ascension weekend with a few sunny days on the beach can look forward to a fairly good availability,” says Kuoni spokesman Markus Flick.
The travel salesman cites the Greek island of Kos as an example: flight, four nights’ accommodation, double room with half board is available for CHF 678 per person. Mallorca also still has enough free flight and hotel seats, says Flick.
Different city trips to Paris, Lyon, Marseille and Hamburg. These are already fully booked via the driveway. Milan, Berlin or Vienna, on the other hand, can still be booked “quite well”.
Not only Kuoni customers are drawn to foreign countries. “We are currently finding that there is a great need to catch up on holidays abroad,” says Hotelplan spokeswoman Bianca Gähweiler. Surprised at the Migros subsidiary: The Europa-Park in Rust (D) is the most popular with customers on the way to Cyprus, Crete, Mallorca and Hurghada. The cities are Paris and Milan.
Schnäppli are not on vacation yet
Even those who book at short notice don’t have to do without bargains, says Gähweiler. Example: A 4-day stay in a 4-star hotel in Bibione, Italy, is available from Hotelplan from CHF 423 per person (including half-board). When it comes to cities, she still sees bargain potential in Vienna.
Tui Suisse is the third major tour operator in Switzerland. Spokeswoman Constanze Andrianello states: “The experiences during the holidays and when traveling are becoming more and more important to people.” Therefore, Tui city breaks are currently very popular. Popular destinations: Paris, Barcelona, London, Lisbon and Amsterdam.
Price example for Barcelona: 4 nights in a double room (4-star hotel) without board, but with a Swiss flight from CHF 1195 per person.
For those who can afford a longer driveway, Andrianello recommends long-distance destinations. “The Caribbean, the Emirates and the Maldives are particularly popular for beach holidays.”
