“It’s unbelievable, people really want to travel. For more than two months we have been booking more every week than before the 2019 pandemic in the same week, »said Meyer in an interview with the «SonntagsZeitung».
According to Meyer, the demand for beach holidays in the Mediterranean is greatest – especially for the destinations Greece and Cyprus, but also for Turkey and Egypt. But medium and long-haul destinations are also in great demand. “Travel to the USA is also very popular, but availability is already very tight. We are now taking bookings for next year.”
For Meyer, however, the industry has not yet reached normality; rather, she sees a “transitional phase”. The corona effect is gone – at least for the moment: “That can change again in the fall.”
But within a very short time one slipped from a shortage of demand to a shortage of supply. “Flights are cancelled, hotels or restaurants don’t open because there are no staff. In addition, rising prices are also an issue in tourism, and we are at war in Europe.”
All in all, flying in particular will probably no longer become cheaper, and that’s “a good thing,” the Hotelplan boss continues. “I think travel is becoming something more special again. The years of dumping prices, especially for flights, are over.”
After the restructuring due to the pandemic, Hotelplan does not plan any further layoffs. “On the contrary, we are constantly hiring and have also done so during the pandemic.” At the moment Hotelplan have various vacancies.
