The body can show in different ways that it is dehydrated and needs more water. However, not every character is recognized correctly.

It is important for health to always drink enough water. About two to three liters a day is recommended for an adult. With great exertion or warm outside temperatures, the need for liquid increases even more.

These ten signs indicate that you are not drinking enough water and should be drinking more:

1. Dark urine

One of the most well-known signs of not drinking enough is dark yellow urine. For many, this is the case in the morning because nothing is drunk at night and the urine is therefore more concentrated. However, if the color of the urine does not change even after drinking more water, a doctor should be consulted.

2. Constipation

Another warning sign that comes up when you go to the toilet is constipation: if the body does not have enough water, the activities of the intestines are also impaired. Of course, constipation can also occur as a result of poor nutrition. Drinking plenty of fluids and eating a high-fiber diet can help.

3. Headache

Dehydration can also show up as a headache. Small blood vessels in the brain react sensitively to the lack of fluid. And the serotonin level – a messenger substance that transmits information in the nervous system – also decreases as a result. Both can lead to headaches. It’s similar when you’ve had too much alcohol, you’re feeling hungover and your body is in dire need of water.

4. Forgetfulness

The more dehydrated you are, the less the brain can perform because it is less supplied with blood due to falling blood pressure. You become more forgetful and cannot concentrate well on tasks.

6. Freeze

Another sign that you haven’t drunk enough can be feeling cold. The blood supply to the skin is reduced and there is also a lack of water in the body, which would help to maintain the temperature. Anyone who freezes quickly even in warm rooms should try to drink a little more.

7. Fatigue

Even after a long sleep and little exertion, you feel exhausted and tired if you are dehydrated. Blood pressure drops when you’re dehydrated, and it also reduces blood flow to the brain, which can lead to fatigue.

8. Dry skin

Dry skin, dark circles under the eyes and deeper wrinkles than usual are the result of not having enough water in the body. With enough liquid, the skin appears plumper and the surface appears less dried out. Water is not only important for health, but also for a fresh appearance.

9. Bad breath

An unpleasant consequence of dehydration can be bad breath. Saliva keeps the number of bacteria in a certain balance. Not drinking enough water means the body can’t produce much saliva, and bacteria in the mouth increase. This creates unpleasant bad breath, which can easily be prevented by drinking enough liquid.

10. Muscle cramps

As previously discussed, dehydration slows blood flow, which can also lead to muscle cramps. In this state, vital organs are better supplied with blood than the muscles, so that cramps can easily occur, especially during sport, if the body is also losing water through sweating.

11. Bad mood

If you drink too little, you are more easily irritable and react more stressed. To lift your spirits and be more confident in everyday life, you should drink enough water – for the sake of yourself and those around you.

That’s how you drink properly

Proper drinking is at least as important for our health as proper nutrition. In order to stay fresh and fit, it is now of great importance to drink enough and, above all, the right drink. But how much water is really enough for the body?
