Numerous influencers are currently massaging their faces with a gua sha.
It is well known that one should try something new from time to time. A current beauty trend on social media is called Gua Sha. Numerous influencers are massaging their faces with a flat stone.
What is that supposed to be good for?
With the Gua Sha massage, excess fluids and lymph blockages are massaged out from under the skin. This allows the lymph flow and the energy in the body to flow again. Regular use leads to better blood circulation, vitality and elasticity of the complexion. It is also said to heal inflammation, strengthen the immune system and improve sleep. Sounds like a miracle cure that we can really use in the fight against sallow and pale skin!
Actually, the Gua Sha application is not a new invention at all, but a tradition that is thousands of years old: Gua Sha stones come from Chinese medicine, where they are traditionally used for lymphatic drainage (a medical massage). However, compared to the original application, the facial massage is a much gentler version.
How to embrace the beauty trend
The term is made up of the words “Gua”, which translates as “to press” or “stroke”, and “Sha”, which stands for “rash” or “redness”. So we simply smooth unwanted bumps out of our faces.
If you want to try the trend, you should definitely pay attention to the correct stroke direction:
- from the inside to the outside
- from bottom to top
The stone is carefully and gently pulled over the skin and only light pressure should be applied. A cooling effect sets in, which helps to stimulate blood circulation and make our “glow” shine.
The stone should never be used on unprepared skin. It is important that the face is cleaned well before the massage. A facial oil or serum then helps so that the stone literally glides over the skin. The products are also better incorporated into the skin thanks to the stone.
Different shapes
The stone itself comes in different shapes and variants. As a rule, however, the massage aids are flat and reminiscent of a heart. The sides are rounded. The choice of stone is often jade, amethyst or rose quartz.
If you prefer not to hold the stone directly in your hand, there are also face rollers that can also be used for a massage.
