What does happiness have to do with sustainability? And how can we all live happily on earth? The exhibition “Global Hapiness – Happiness with sustainability” by the independent Swiss development organization Helvetas provides possible answers to these questions. It invites visitors to the environmental arena in Spreitbach AG on a voyage of discovery and thus combines reflection on happiness and contentment with the global UN goals for sustainable development.
As part of the family days from December 26, 2022 to January 8, 2023 there will be a guided tour for children. It explores the question of what sustainable happiness can look like. Happiness that does not harm the environment, other people or future generations. And what is it that makes the world, us and me and you happy?
Recycling, pinball and slide
In the exhibition, people from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe have their say. At the same time, psychologists, economists, social and environmental scientists from happiness research report on individual and societal framework conditions for happiness and well-being.

The Swiss Environmental Arena in Spreitbach comprises a total of around 45 exhibition worlds to touch, experience and experiment with. For example the «Recycling City», which shows how photovoltaic modules are recycled. You can play on the recycling ball track, where waste is separated. Or at the currentless pinball machine for a sustainable energy future. Or test the energy slide that shows how electricity is produced.
Test e-mobility
There are also lasting experiences for the adults: They can do laps on e-fat bikes, Segways or electric cars to see what electronic mobility can look like. Pedal karts, scooters and other driving devices are available for children to try out.
An exhibition world deals with food. There, in the “Running Buffet” game, you can find out, among other things, which foods have the least impact on the environment and learn more about healthy and balanced nutrition.
