Wilma (3) checks in, the Almhof Family Resort is at eye level with its little guests.

Wilma is three years old. And yet big. On an equal footing with the approximately 60 employees at the Almhof Family Resort in Gerlos (A). Because there are steps for children at the reception – and the little ones can check in themselves. Because she is allowed to sit on fabulously cute mini stools directly at the bar. Because everything, really everything, is seen through the eyes of children in this hotel. “Children are bridges to heaven” is the greeting in the entrance area. In Gerlos, this small, familiar village of 700 souls in the middle of the Zillertal, the little ones will find paradise. No wish seems too big, no child too small.
Wilma’s motto is: “The worst thing is when it gets boring.” In the Almhof Family Resort, this danger is low. action, action, action. And 365 days a year. “Summer is more varied, horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, the offer is bigger,” says hotel boss Peter Kammerlander. “Even bigger” one is tempted to say. Because even in winter you don’t know where to start because of all the offers. At the trampoline park, which leaves nothing to be desired, even for adults? The one that impresses with Valo Jump, High 9, Tumbeling Lane and CageBall and gives unlimited joy? At the oversized Water World, which offers everything that water rats like? Including a sensational Ferrari slide that even little Wilma can master without a swimming aid. And parents can’t get enough of it either.
relaxation for the parents
Oh yes, the dear, exhausted, often annoyed parents. They don’t miss out either. Because you can spontaneously bring the little ones to the hotel’s day care center and enjoy a three-course gourmet dinner undisturbed. Or why not just go to the wellness tower? Children are not allowed in there, the area is reserved for adults. But the youngsters don’t miss anything. Because the Water World also has a sauna and steam bath for the little ones.
In short: anyone who checks into the Almhof will never want to leave. And it doesn’t have to. Because he has everything. Including the hotel’s own ski school and lift. Because the hotel at the entrance to the village is a bit remote (it’s seven minutes by ski bus to the valley station), they wanted to remain “self-sufficient”, says boss Peter Kammerlander. He and his family succeeded.
3351 euros per week
The Almhof Family Resort is appreciated by the guests, at the beginning of December, before the season, the hotel is well filled. And that, although a stay is not cheap. In January, a family room for two adults with two children costs 3351 euros per week. The “all-inclusive pampering arrangement” includes food and all offers, and there is a 15 percent discount for the ski school.
“In terms of value for money, you won’t find anything comparable in Switzerland,” says Kammerlander. “Holidays with added value” is the Almhof motto.
Little Wilma, anyway, she doesn’t want to go anywhere else on vacation. Because she dances with Almi, the hotel mascot, in the mornings. Because she stands on the magic stage in the evening and assists the magician. Because she rushes down the water slides and jumps on the trampoline. Because the food is pasta and pizza. And countless other favorite foods. Because it never gets boring.
Or to put it with the long-standing motto of the municipality: «In Gerlos the bear is loose!»
