The perfect wines for your resolutions

For many, moderation follows the lavish festive season: for the sake of health, they do not drink alcohol or eat vegan. Our expert tests four bottles that fit into January. In the video he even tastes the wine of a well-known musician, oh yeah!

In January, a particularly large number of people pay attention to healthy eating. Just to shed the extra pounds from the holidays

“Sober October” is what health-conscious people call the alcohol-free month before the bustling and sociable holiday season. In “Dry January” the extra pounds that you have eaten over Christmas and New Year should be brought down again. In between, most of us have a good time. They feast and drink as much as they can. I don’t want to discuss the sense and nonsense of these resolutions here, after all you can enjoy life quite well without alcohol. Nobody has to do without culinary delights, because calorie-conscious food can be very tasty and the enjoyment of wine is also included. Even the top gastronomy has noticed that the de-alcoholized wines are getting better and better and also make a good trap as a meal accompaniment.

This removes the alcohol from the wine

The technique was actually invented in 1908 by Dr. developed by Carl Jung. The red, white, rosé or sparkling wine is initially produced in exactly the same way as conventional wines. The alcohol is subsequently removed in a gentle vacuum process. Under vacuum, the alcohol evaporates at a temperature of 27 instead of 80 degrees Celsius. In this way, volatile aromas can also be obtained. This method ensures that the grape and wine aromas are almost completely preserved and takes the quality level of dealcoholized wines to a new level.

Vegans don’t have to do without wine

People’s habits have been changing for a long time. A healthy and sustainable lifestyle is one of the major megatrends of our time. Because many people curb their alcohol consumption or completely do without beer, schnapps and the like, wine consumption has been declining for years. The vegetarian or even vegan lifestyle is booming. If you don’t want to do without animal products entirely, but would like to try this diet, you can eat vegan for a month in January. The “Veganuary” has the advantage over the “Dry January” that you don’t have to do without a good glass of wine. And you don’t have to worry about the quality of the drops at all. Because the use of animal products can easily be avoided in the production of fermented grape juice. Therefore, vegan wines are often not labeled as such.

When is a wine vegan?

Animal products are only used in wine production to clarify (also known as fining) the cloudy must before bottling. Traditionally, egg white is used for this. If you add this to the wine (about three egg whites are enough for almost 100 liters of wine), the proteins bind the cloudy matter and settle at the bottom of the barrel. The clear must can then be drawn off from above. In rare cases, gelatine is also used for this purpose. A wine is vegan if it is not refined at all, which is the case with many red wines. Or, the winemakers use activated carbon or pea proteins for clarification.

In Coop’s wide range of wines you will find many vegan wines, not all of which are labeled as such. The major distributor also has a number of dealcoholized drops in its portfolio.

Let yourself be inspired!

I am happy to present you with a selection of excellent vegan wines and a Prosecco that you hardly notice that it has been dealcoholized.

These 4 wines will get you through January
