The sun terrace of the Schatzalp is said to have served as a template for Thomas Mann’s “The Magic Mountain”.
1. Hotel Schatzalp – model for a bestseller?
The Schatzalp opened its doors in 1900 as a luxurious sanatorium in the most beautiful location 300 meters above Davos. Today the impressive Art Nouveau building houses a mountain hotel on the attractive sun terrace. It is said that the building served as a model for Thomas Mann’s fictional sanatorium in the novel The Magic Mountain. Everything made up? One thing is certain: the place still inspires its visitors today and offers them pure peace and relaxation. Not only the stay, but also the journey to the car-free area around the hotel by the Schatzalp train has a decelerating effect. Formerly a progressive tuberculosis sanatorium, today a beautiful, charming hotel steeped in history: the Schatzalp has definitely remained an ideal place to take a deep breath!
