Scabies is a contagious skin disease caused by the itch mite. The disease causes severe itching – and is transmitted from person to person through direct skin contact.
So if scabies is diagnosed, the disease must be treated as soon as possible. Several anti-mite agents are available for therapy. It is important that those affected seek medical advice and follow the doctor’s instructions exactly. If you are affected, it is important to inform your own contact persons of the past few weeks and to avoid close contact with other people. Sometimes it makes sense to treat contact persons as well.
