The Lonza high-rise is now a listed building. The Basel government has decided to enter the 68 meter high building in the canton’s register of monuments.
The Basel government announced on Tuesday that the Lonza high-rise is a material testimony to history and is a monument because of its high value in terms of architectural history and urban development.
The Lonza high-rise at Münchensteinerstrasse 38 was built in the 1960s by the architects Suter and Suter. The building was modeled on the Pirelli Tower by Pier Luigi Nervi and Gio Ponti in Milan, which was built shortly before (1958-1960), and is around twice as high. (SDA)
