Basel’s public transport company knew nothing
Bus driver sat behind the wheel for a year and a half without a driver’s license
A bus driver from Basel sat for a year and a half without having a driver’s license and chauffeured guests through the city. He is also said to have used cocaine. He now has to go to court for that.

He was behind the wheel of a bus operated by the Basler Verkehrsbetriebe (BVB) – without a driver’s license. For a year and a half, a Basel bidder (38) was able to transport guests unnoticed, as the “bz” reports. He will be tried before the criminal court next week.
BVB does not comment on the specific case. Nor how many employees had their ID cards revoked. If a chauffeur loses the ticket, an attempt would be made to accommodate the employee in another area of the company, says Samuel Enderli from the Basler Verkehrsbetriebe (BVB) of the “bz”.
dragged along by passers-by
Enderli firmly rejects the fact that the requirements for the job as a bus driver have been lowered because BVB is struggling with staff shortages. “Quite the opposite, because the driving tests that we have our driving instructors carry out during the recruitment process allow us to check driving competence and suitability to drive, general knowledge of road traffic and how to deal with other road users.”
But the man is not only on trial because of the driver’s license story. In September 2019, the 38-year-old had an argument with a driver. The situation escalated. In the end he is said to have dragged a passer-by with him in the car. He is also accused of cocaine use. (lrc)
