Court acquits Valais gamekeeper
A game warden who kept two young golden eagles in a stable was acquitted by the Valais cantonal court on Tuesday. According to the court, the man did not violate applicable animal protection regulations

The 57-year-old was accused of keeping a golden eagle, sometimes two, in a stable between July 5 and 23, 2018. He did this without the required cantonal permit and although he had been instructed to house the animals elsewhere as soon as possible.
In the first instance, the Sion District Court sentenced the accused to a conditional fine of 40 daily rates of CHF 330. The district court has now come to a different verdict. The game warden violated neither the Federal Act on Hunting and the Protection of Wild Mammals and Birds nor the Animal Welfare Act.
