A former chauffeur from the Basel transport company did his job for a year and a half without a driver’s license. Now the court has sentenced him. In the next five years he will have to reorient himself professionally.

As a chauffeur, the convict drove his passengers through the region – but he didn’t have a driver’s license for a year and a half.
Next stop: occupational ban. This is how the Basel criminal court ruled in the case of a former bus driver (36). Between March 2020 and September 2021, the Basel-based chauffeur drove passengers from the Basler Verkehrs-Betriebe (BVB) through the area. His crime: he didn’t have a driver’s license.
On Tuesday, the ex-chauffeur had to answer in court, reports the “Basler Zeitung”. It was not just about the trips without a ticket, but also about cocaine and attempted serious bodily harm.

In the autumn of four years ago, a violent argument escalated on the open road between the convict and a driver in Muttenz BL. When a passer-by finally came to the driver’s aid, the accused loaded the man onto the hood and dragged him a few meters with his car. In addition to this offense, the ex-driver was also accused of cocaine consumption at the wheel.
No country reference
The criminal court issued the accused with a professional ban. He will not be allowed to transport people for five years. In addition, he was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence of 13 months and a fine of 57 daily rates of CHF 110 each.
The court refrained from expelling him from the country. The reason: the ex-chauffeur, who has a B residence permit, has no criminal record. According to the court, he therefore has a good prognosis for the future. (bab)
