The inhabitants of northern Italy were amazed when they saw the spectacle in the sky: a meteor passed particularly close to the earth.
A real natural spectacle could be observed in Ticino on Thursday evening. A meteor flew across the sky just after 6:30 p.m. Reader reporter Reto Brunner was driving from Locarno to Bellinzona when he saw the green ball on the horizon. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” he says to Blick.
According to “3Bmeteo”, the meteor was a bolide, a fireball that shines particularly brightly in the sky. “At first I thought someone had lit a rocket,” says Brunner. “But then we saw that the meteor was moving towards the earth.” He adds: “You get a queasy feeling.” Because the meteor looked like it was moving perpendicularly towards the earth.
Meteor flew past the earth
The observers in Ticino especially noticed the colour. “Emerald green, like a Bengal fire,” says Brunner. According to “3Bmeto”, the Italian residents report a red trail left by the meteor in the sky. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” Brunner told Blick.
The bolide flew particularly close to the earth. The spectacle could be observed in northern Italy and parts of Ticino. But according to the current state of knowledge, the meteor did not hit the earth. (jwg)
