Because of lack of snow
Grindelwald Snow Sculpture Festival has to give up
No snow sculptures this year in Grindelwald. The lack of snow makes it impossible to hold this year’s World Snow Festival from mid-January in the Bernese Oberland tourist resort. The fresh snow forecast for next week comes too late.

“We hoped and tried until the end, but unfortunately we have to give up now,” said Isabelle vom Dahl from Grindelwald Tourismus on Tuesday, according to the announcement. The snow for the three by three meter blocks for the sculptures must be able to settle in the formwork in good time. This is the only way for the artists to create sculptures out of the compact snow cubes.
Although there is enough snow for winter sports in the ski areas around Grindelwald, things are different in the village itself.
The World Snow Festival has been taking place in Grindelwald since 1983 and is an integral part of the winter program of the tourist resort. This year the event would have taken place for the 40th time. Artists from all over the world take part in the festival. It should take place again next year, as the organizers wrote in their announcement on Tuesday.
