Zurich cantonal councilor Domenik Ledergerber was unanimously nominated as the new party president by the cantonal board of the Zurich SVP on Wednesday. The party’s delegates will decide on the election of the 34-year-old farmer from Herrliberg at their regular meeting on August 23.
The party leadership wanted to arrange the successor quickly with a view to the 2023 election year, the SVP of the Canton of Zurich announced late Wednesday evening. Ledergerber is to succeed National Councilor Benjamin Fischer, who surprisingly resigned in mid-May due to time constraints.
Ledergerber in the cantonal council since 2018
Ledergeber had previously been proposed by the party leadership as a candidate for the party presidency. According to the announcement, Fischer will remain with the party in a new position.
Domenik Ledergerber was elected to the Zurich Cantonal Council in 2018. In the party he was previously treasurer and a member of the party leadership office. (SDA)
