The Canton of Valais announced on Friday that the Department for Hunting, Fishing and Wildlife (DJFW) had filed a criminal complaint based on this report by the Institute for Animal Pathology at the University of Bern. The big cat was found in mid-October in a boulder field on the route of the Bisse Rho by a walker, who then alerted the game warden, as DJFW director Nicolas Bourquin told the Keystone-SDA news agency.
According to the canton, metal splinters were found during the autopsy, which correspond to those of a bullet and whose location and extent indicate a direct connection with the death of the animal. The lynx is a strictly protected animal species and poaching it is a crime that will be prosecuted ex officio.
