A man attacked his neighbor in Goppenstein VS because he was barbecuing in the garden.
Because his neighbor was grilling a lamb for a Roma holiday, a man from Goppenstein VS completely freaked out in May 2022: he attacked the grill master with an ice pick and finally ruined the feast with a fire extinguisher. Anyway, no one was injured.
The video of it went viral. It shows the attack and how the perpetrator insults the victim as “Jugo”, who will soon be arrested by the police for barbecuing in the garden.
Sentenced by penal order
But the police and judiciary finally had to deal with the attacker. The Grill-Schreck now has to pay a hefty fine, reports the “Walliser Bote”. He was convicted of property damage, verbal abuse and threats.
The man received a conditional fine of 45 daily rates of CHF 65 each. In addition, he has to pay a fine of 500 francs and the costs of the proceedings of 750 francs.
Management allowed the barbecue fun
The dispute had occurred on a lawn in front of an apartment building in Goppenstein. Both men are renters and longtime neighbors. As every year, on May 6th, St. George’s Day, the Roma wanted to grill a lamb. He asked the administration for permission in advance.
But his neighbor had a problem with it. Without further ado, he dismantled the stone grill in the garden. In addition, the man, who comes from the canton of Bern, stuck a note on the door of the Roma three days beforehand. It said: “No fire!”
But the head of the grill didn’t let himself be deterred from his plan on the holiday: with the permission of the administration, he built a new grill area.
Ice ax used, then grabbed the fire extinguisher
Then the attacker stepped in, came out of the house with an ice pick and threatened the grill boss. There were wild scenes. The victim called the police.
Even before they arrived, the man from Bern ended the barbecue party with a hand-held fire extinguisher. The victim therefore also demands damages of 1,000 francs from the neighbor who has been convicted by law for the ruined banquet. (ct)
