Your work tools fit in a beauty case. Fishnet catsuit, pink dildo, a tablet for recording. Another layer of makeup on your face. She throws her black hair over her shoulders. Then the job for their “fans” begins: pose sexy. Naked – or as good as. In the bedroom. In the bathroom. At home or in the hotel room. Wherever a few snapshots can be taken quickly. And they look deep.
Melba Monti (23) from Balerna TI is a creator on Onlyfans. For CHF 15 a month, subscribers can view pornographic photos on the Melba platform. Like on Facebook or Instagram, interaction between followers and performers is possible. If you have any requests, you pay extra. “I take photos and videos,” says Melba Monti, “I also show sexual intercourse with a man or lesbian sex.” It’s all a matter of price. Only one thing is not possible: prostitution.
“I don’t hurt anyone, I pay my taxes”
The Ticino native remembers that it took two years of effort before she put her profile online, “even then, friends told me about Onlyfans and how well you could make money with it”. They had been cashiers or saleswomen and had given up their jobs. At that time the pandemic was raging. “Many lost their jobs during the lockdown. I also know couples and men who from then on presented themselves on Onlyfans », says Melba Monti.
She personally worked in the bar. “They treated me badly there. I wanted out of there.” Only the money was missing. «I lived with my parents, was looking for a new apprenticeship or a job, but didn’t get an offer. It couldn’t go on like this,” says Melba. In July 2022 it will be ready – and online. Melba Monti now earns at least 9,000 francs a month. “I have no problem showing myself,” she says almost defiantly, “I don’t hurt anyone, I pay my taxes.”
Melba no longer reads stupid sayings
Melba Monti is not a stage name. “I’m already recognized, in the supermarket or something,” she says, “I don’t read stupid sayings on the net anymore.” An agency now takes over the management of their messages. But the Ticino native doesn’t just put away the new image that easily. “I’ve decided to do it. I have to stand by it. For example, if I were a lawyer by profession, I wouldn’t sell myself on Onlyfans.”
In her youth she built her future. “I went to business school, could have done my high school diploma, but I gave up everything, wanted to enjoy my freedom,” says Melba, “I was young. Today I could slap myself for it.” The porn actress still has a longing for a middle-class life. “I want to make as much money as possible, then go to a private school.”
Onlyfans can quickly become a vicious circle
Onlyfans has been around since 2016. The numbers on the British network have been exploding since 2020. There are now 50 million users worldwide on the platform. In Switzerland, 160,000 Onlyfans google every month. Celebrities have long been lolling about in exchange for cash subscriptions.
“The attraction lies in the forbidden,” says social media expert Matthias Jax, “it’s the feeling of looking behind the scenes or watching people like you and me.” The creators are looking for feedback. “The more you show, the more likes there are. And sex sells,” says the project manager for saferinternet.at. But what happens on Onlyfans doesn’t always remain a private matter. The pornographic images also quickly end up on all social media channels and can lead to cyberbullying. “Once the images are posted online, they stay online forever,” says Jax. A careless self-portrayal on Onlyfans could become a vicious circle.
