The staff officer who verbally attacked Amherd and Cassis was released with immediate effect.
A staff officer who is said to have made negative comments about members of the Federal Council in a loud telephone conversation on the train in April 2022 no longer works for the army. The manager has been released with immediate effect.
Army spokesman Mathias Volken confirmed a corresponding report by the CH Media newspapers to the Keystone-SDA news agency on Thursday. “The employment relationship is terminated by mutual agreement because the army staff member concerned will accept a new professional challenge,” Volken wrote. The farewell succeeds “thanks to his many years of service and with the best wishes for the professional future”.
Also attacked Cassis
The CH Media newspapers first reported on the phone call on the train from Bern to Zurich at the beginning of May 2022. According to the article, the officer is said to have described Defense Minister Viola Amherd and Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis as “weak figures”. He is also said to have said that the army did not see Russian President Vladimir Putin as acting irrationally.
On Thursday, the army did not comment on whether disciplinary measures were subsequently taken against the man. According to Volken, no further information on the case can be given for reasons of privacy protection. (SDA)
