The climate activists are planning a strike walk on the occasion of the WEF. Just like in 2020, seen here in the picture.
It’s a declaration of war. “Fuck WEF”, write the climate activists of the collective “Strike WEF” on Instagram, who protest annually on the occasion of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. Not only the gigantic CO2-Expulsion is a thorn in their side, caused by the invited elite arriving in their private jets. In principle, it is bad that those who are responsible for “many problems of our time” are given a platform.
The climate activists speak of a “lack of democracy” and the “lack of will” to redesign established economic concepts and values - this prevents the change to a sustainable, just world.
On Saturday and Sunday the activists go on an approved strike hike. On their website they make it clear that there are rules for all participants. No violence and no property damage. “Our hike should convey a picture of diversity, creativity and openness.” In a flash mob there will also be creative theater and clowning, as it is said on social media. The activists also come up with a jukebox and they draw with sidewalk chalk.
Politicians also take to the streets
And that’s not the only demo. The Juso Graubünden will also protest at the weekend. “Southeastern Switzerland” had already reported on a corresponding request from the local authorities, after which the young politicians wanted to hold a rally on the Davos town hall square. As the canton of Graubünden now reports to Blick on request, this has been approved.
André Kraske from the office of the WEF committee of the Graubünden government says that other actions such as a photo exhibition have been approved. However, one would be prepared for the rallies. “The Graubünden canton police and their partners ensure the safety of visitors.”
The army will be present
Around 3000 guests from business, politics and science are expected at the Davos WEF this year. Between 200 and 300 of them are heads of state, ministers and representatives of international organizations protected under international law. Switzerland is obliged by law to ensure their protection.
The Graubünden police receive support from the army. The canton and municipality bear most of the costs for the safety precautions. Around nine million are incurred for police protection alone. The federal government supports with 2.55 million annually. (twa)
