Thanks to the new location, there should be fewer delays.
Because the Zurich-North area has so far been served, among other things, by the parcel center in Urdorf, as stated in a postal release on Friday. The packages had to be transported through the Gubrist. This bottleneck with its evening traffic jams is now a thing of the past for the post office, since Rümlang is in a much better position in terms of transport for the Zurich-North region.
The regional parcel center is located in the Riedmatt industrial district of Rümlang; the motorway is close by, the access and exit routes are according to the announcement away from the residential areas. Around 60 new jobs have been created in the former industrial hall, which the Post Office converted at a cost of eleven million francs.
Päckli flood forces Post to act
Swiss Post is expanding its sorting and delivery infrastructure due to booming online trade and increasing parcel volumes. After Rümlang, new regional parcel centers will also be put into operation in Buchs (AG) and Pratteln (BL) at the beginning of 2023. Further centers near the metropolitan areas of Basel, Bern and Zurich are planned.
Swiss Post intends to double its parcel processing capacity by 2030. At least 15 parcel sorting locations should then be in operation.
As in Rümlang, this should also shorten the distances: “The parcels posted from and for the region are more and more often sorted in the same region,” says the message. (SDA)
