Speeding trip ended with an accident on the A1 near Rümlang ZH
Junglenker (20) fled from the police across Switzerland
After midnight, a 20-year-old racer was in a chase with several cantonal police across Switzerland. The escape ended in an accident near Rümlang ZH. The two occupants suffered minor injuries.
The Swiss fled from the police in this car until the accident finally occurred on the A1.
A 20-year-old man fled from several police vehicles on Saturday night with a 16-year-old passenger on the A1 motorway. An accident finally stopped him. The man was guilty of a number of offences.
Stolen license plates were attached to the car, the man did not respond to the police’s multiple requests to stop, he drove at a massively increased speed of sometimes over 200 kilometers per hour and overtook other vehicles on the right over the breakdown lane, as the Zurich cantonal police announced.
Several patrols from the Bern, Solothurn and Aargau cantonal police “rushed after” the fleeing car. They reported the incident shortly after 1.30 a.m. to the traffic control center of the Zurich cantonal police, whereupon several patrols of the Zurich cantonal police were called out.
Both occupants taken to the hospital
After the driver drove through the Gubrist tunnel in the direction of St. Gallen, he touched two patrol vehicles from the Aargau canton police on the Nordring near Rümlang. He lost control of the car, crashed into the guard rail on the right-hand side of the road and finally came to a standstill.
The 20-year-old and his 16-year-old passenger were arrested at the scene of the accident. Because they were slightly injured in the accident, they were taken to a hospital in an ambulance. The public prosecutor ordered a blood and urine sample from the driver. After being discharged from the hospital, he would be handed over to the head of road traffic at the public prosecutor’s office in the canton of Zurich.
The exact course of events and the reason for the escape are being investigated by the Zurich cantonal police, the public prosecutor’s office and the youth prosecutor’s office. Police officers were not injured during the operation. Moderate property damage was caused to two patrol cars from the Aargau canton police and one from Zurich. In addition, several meters of highway guardrail were damaged. (SDA)
