Snowshoe hiker († 38) falls ten meters down

A fatal mountain accident occurred near Selun on Sunday. A man fell into a karst hole while snowshoeing. After extensive search measures, the missing person was finally found dead during the course of Monday.

On Sunday morning, a snowshoe hiker († 38) went on a hike on Selun alone, according to the St. Gallen canton police. However, after failing to return home that same evening, he was reported missing.

Then, on Monday afternoon, the sad certainty: the man could only be rescued dead by the rescue workers. He fell about ten meters deep into a karst hole. The canton police assume that the karst hole was covered with a small amount of snow and therefore not visible to the snowshoe hiker. (chs)
