Because of the summer of the century
Record for recreational accidents
Last year, Suva recorded more leisure accidents than ever before. One reason for this was the exceptionally nice weather in spring and summer. Many sufferers injured themselves during outdoor activities.

Overall, the Swiss accident insurance (Suva) registered almost 290,000 leisure accidents, as announced on Tuesday. It is the highest level ever observed. Compared to the previous year, the number of cases increased by 14 percent, compared to 2019 – the last year before the corona pandemic – by 4 percent.
2022 offered exceptionally good conditions for skiing, biking or hiking, Suva wrote in its communiqué. March was already exceptional, Suva statistician Alois Fässler was quoted as saying. The sunny and low-precipitation weather meant that people spent a lot of time outside. In no other month of the year did Suva record more sports and hiking accidents.
