The foundation used over 56 million francs in 326 projects of its Swiss partner organizations in 42 countries worldwide, as Swiss Solidarity announced on Tuesday. Major humanitarian crises, a historical collection and an extraordinary wave of solidarity shaped the Swiss Solidarity year 2022.
By the end of the year, Swiss Solidarity had received over 130 million Swiss francs in donations for aid in Ukraine and neighboring countries. Swiss Solidarity used the donations to finance aid projects for its local Swiss partner organizations immediately after the outbreak of war on 24 February.
After extensive flooding in Pakistan at the end of August, Swiss Solidarity received more than CHF 5.3 million in donations for the aid, according to a statement. With the money collected, the emergency aid from the Swiss partner organizations could be financed quickly.
On November 23, Swiss Solidarity organized a national solidarity day for those affected by the drought in East Africa with the support of SRG. By the end of the year, 13.8 million francs had been raised for aid in Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia, it said.
More than 11.5 million francs were used in Switzerland, among other things, to support homeless people, refugees from the Ukraine war and to support young people and children in need.
Other topics of Swiss Solidarity’s work were the financing of projects for children and help in Afghanistan after the Taliban took power and projects for refugees in Europe. At the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency, Swiss Solidarity said that the largest donation of a year so far was CHF 227 million in 2004 after the tsunami in Southeast Asia.
