What are you thankful for today? What inspired you? The new Swiss app “Resilyou” asks its users questions like these. This is intended to strengthen their satisfaction and resilience – i.e. their mental resilience. In addition, the application is intended to deepen friendships and relationships by sharing your entries with another person.
The app was developed by Meike Kocholl (27), partly in collaboration with psychologists and as part of a course at the University of St. Gallen. The application has been available for download in the App Store for two weeks – it is currently free of charge. The Reformed Church of the Canton of St. Gallen financially supported “Resilyou”.
That fits, says Kocholl. After all, pastoral care has a long tradition in the church. However, the application itself is free from religious influences. Kocholl hopes that many people, especially young people, will benefit from the app. Thanks to her, you can change a lot with little effort. “You can train mental strength like a muscle,” she says. The longer you do the exercises in the app, which are based on the findings of positive psychology, the more positive you perceive in everyday life.
Small moments of happiness in everyday life
The focus on gratitude, success and appreciation means that one’s own scope for action increases and one acquires resources that make it easier to survive a crisis. The most important thing is to keep at it, says Kocholl. That’s why the exercises in the app are uncomplicated and only take around five minutes a day. “I’m the most diligent user myself,” she admits. “Since I started using the app’s methods two years ago, I’ve been more positive through the day and indulge in beautiful moments for longer.”
The latter need not have failed at all. Often she simply notes small moments of happiness in everyday life in her gratitude diary in the app. The time together with the family. A good meal. Or a walk in the mountains.
