Honest finders give it back
Valais couple find envelope with 20,000 francs
Honest finders give an elderly man in Valais an early Christmas present. They brought him back an envelope containing 20,000 francs that they had found on the street not far from a bank in Martigny.
According to the Valais canton police, a nice story about honest citizens happened in the canton in the first week of Advent.
The older person, a mute man, had withdrawn CHF 20,000 from an ATM in Martigny on Tuesday. When he got home and couldn’t find the money, he went to the canton police to report the alleged theft.
On the same day, “he contacted us to tell us that the money had reappeared and to explain to us what had happened,” said Stève Léger, spokesman for the Valais canton police, on Thursday at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.
A couple had recovered the envelope and, using the extract and the necessary contact details, went to the owner’s house. He was overjoyed with the outcome of the story and thanked the couple with a finder’s fee of CHF 500.
