In Valais, two missing people are suspected under an avalanche. The two people, a 42-year-old French woman and a Belgian of the same age, have been searched for in the mountains between Ovronnaz and Fully since last Wednesday.
Concrete evidence was found on an avalanche that indicates the whereabouts of the two people, said the Valais canton police on Monday. In view of the number of days that have already passed and the traces discovered, one cannot count on the missing people being recovered alive, said a spokesman for the canton police of the Keystone-SDA news agency. However, the police are continuing their efforts to recover the bodies.
The cantonal police were informed by third parties on Wednesday about the disappearance of the two people. Since then, numerous means of land and air have been used to find the missing, the police said.
During the search, specific indications of an avalanche that came off in the Chavalard region above Fully were discovered. The public prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
