A woman from Lenzburg will probably not forget this train ride in a hurry. «Me: Today, 10.10 p.m. Zurich HB. After a long day at work, finally on the train home (Lenzburg) », writes the woman on the LinkedIn social network.
But the anticipation of home quickly evaporated, as the “Aargauer Zeitung” reports. Because when the train staff wanted to check the ticket, the woman realized that she had landed on the night train to Basel-Amsterdam and not on the train that stops in Lenzburg.
The engine driver first checked the extra stop in Lenzburg
«In my mind’s eye I see my bed roaming far away. I lean back exhausted and stoically surrender to my odyssey destiny », reports the Aargau native. Her unknown seat neighbor tried to cheer her up. Meanwhile, the inspector was already looking for new connections.
A few moments later, the conductor informed the woman that the engine driver was checking an extraordinary stop in Lenzburg. Inspired by hope, a discussion then started in the compartment. The woman from Aargau talked to her neighbor, a German, whom she found very charming, about the possibilities of SBB compared to Deutsche Bahn. Other passengers also joined the debate, according to the report.
«Extraordinary stop in Aarau!»
However, the inspector returned a short time later with bad news: An extra stop in Lenzburg was not possible because of other trains.
But the woman seemed to have already accepted her fate: “I – only slightly disappointed: I consider it extremely extraordinary that you even considered this and discussed it with the train driver right away. I’m excited! It’s all ok. Thank you very much!”
The discussion in the compartment flared up again. And again the controller had to interrupt. But this time she had a broad grin on her face: “We’re making an extraordinary stop for you in Aarau!”
woman was passed with a standing ovation
Some passengers in the compartment then clap. A few moments later the train actually stopped in Aarau. “Accompanied by the train attendant and her supervisor, as well as a standing ovation in the compartment and a new Linkedin contact, she opens the door and I jump out,” writes the Lenzburger.
On Linkedin, many readers are enthusiastic about the woman’s experience, writes “AZ”. There is also great praise for the SBB. In the comments, a woman even reports a similar experience in which an extra stop was made for her in Basel.
The train continued a minute late
At the request of the newspaper, Sabrina Schellenberg, SBB media spokeswoman, explained: “Such cases are extremely rare. The SBB then check whether an extraordinary stop is possible. »
For an extra stop, a number of criteria must be met, for example that the stop has no influence on the timetable of all trains. In this case, the night train departed Aarau one minute late and arrived in Basel five minutes later than planned. Five minutes that probably didn’t bother any of the passengers. (obf)
