A fire broke out in a cell in Thun regional prison on Friday evening. One occupant was seriously injured. Apparently he set the fire on purpose. The cantonal police in Bern have started investigations.
Emergency services immediately moved out. When they arrived, thick smoke was billowing from the cell. A prison employee had already taken the prisoner (17) out of the room and his colleagues had largely extinguished the fire.
An ambulance team first took care of the seriously injured teenager before he was taken to the hospital. In addition, an employee of the detention center was brought in for a check-up with suspected smoke inhalation.
