The canton of Zug is buying the work “L-Steine” by the Zug artist Lukas Hoffmann for 40,000 francs. The photo series is an excellent addition to the canton’s art collection. The extraordinary purchase will be financed from the lottery fund.
The work consists of 24 silver gelatin prints printed on baryta paper and additionally framed, as announced by the Zug Culture Office on Wednesday. The cantonal art collection comprises around 1,600 objects. CHF 90,000 is available annually for the purchase of works.
Zug already bought photographs in 2019
The Government Council approved the additional funds for the purchase of the photo series, as the collection could be supplemented with an important work by Hoffmann, as stated on request. Most recently, the canton bought several of his photographs in 2019. The series depicts the wide range of work by the artist, who was born in 1981 and is becoming increasingly successful.
Hoffmann, who lives in Berlin, won the Swiss Design Award in the photography category in 2019. In 2021 he received a grant from the Canton of Zug to further develop his work in the three East Central European metropolises of Warsaw, Prague and Budapest. (SDA)
