Should Germany enter the Ukraine conflict, Berlin would not have time to negotiate permits with Bern, Flügger said in an interview with ArcInfo, Le Nouvelliste and La Liberté published on Friday. “We are only talking about re-exports of Swiss-made ammunition that Germany bought twenty years ago for anti-aircraft systems.”
According to the Ambassador, the concept of cooperative neutrality proposed last year by Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis could have been a solution to this problem.
Flügger, however, recognized the Swiss effort to rebuild Ukraine – but added: “But is it really logical to wait until the infrastructure is destroyed before doing anything?”
The Security Policy Committee of the National Council adopted a motion and a parliamentary initiative on Tuesday calling for the re-export of war material to be permitted in certain cases, particularly for Ukraine. (SDA)
