Only 13 percent of the companies surveyed described the earnings situation in the fourth quarter of 2022 as “poor”, the association announced on Monday. In the previous quarter, every fourth company complained about poor earnings.
However, only 17 percent of the companies rate their earnings situation as “good”, after 30 percent in the previous quarter. 71 percent of the companies surveyed are currently speaking of a “satisfactory” earnings situation.
The averaging towards satisfactory values is also reflected in the order backlog. This is described by 67 percent of the companies. The employment situation is also improving. From October to December, slightly more than half (54%) of the affiliated companies rated these as good, compared to 40 percent in the previous quarter.
According to the association, the new year should start with a bang. 21 percent of the reporting companies expect better earnings for the first quarter of the current year. According to the FEA, the main reason for this is probably the falling material costs.
However, the order backlog and incoming orders would be judged rather cautiously. The employment situation also fits into this picture: Only 8 percent of the companies surveyed forecast this as “better”.
