The ferries are among the largest projects for hybrid ships, as the company announced on Wednesday. The ships will operate between Portsmouth in the UK and the ports of Saint-Malo and Caen in France.
The battery systems are designed for an output of 11.3 megawatt hours and are based on the latest cell technology from Leclanché. The two ships are scheduled for delivery in 2024 and 2025.
The two E-Flexer hybrid ferries, nearly 195 meters long, were designed and developed by Stena Roro (a subsidiary of Stena Line) in collaboration with Brittany Ferries. They will be chartered out to Brittany Ferries for a ten-year period to operate between Portsmouth and France.
