It is March 6th, 2021, Switzerland is in lockdown. But 90 corona skeptics don’t care about the corona rules. They meet in the Älpli restaurant in Gommiswald SG and celebrate despite the ban on events. At the party, there is neither sufficient distance nor do the revelers adhere to the mask requirement.
The event was organized by Älpli landlady Barbara L.* and Konrad P.*, a local car salesman. Now the See-Gaster district court has found the two organizers and Armin S.*, who appeared as a speaker at the event, guilty. The trio will be fined and will also have to pay the costs of the proceedings, as the “Tagblatt” reports.
Corona skeptic trio has to pay thousands of francs
Barbara L. has to bear 90 percent of the costs of the procedure with 4160 francs. On top of that, there is a conditional fine of five daily rates of CHF 120 and a fine of CHF 1,200.
Armin S., who appeared in March 2021 as a guru and spokesman for the corona skeptics, has to pay 250 francs. There are also 3,600 francs in procedural costs. He gave a lecture at the time and gave tips on how to circumvent the Corona measures. Konrad P. pays the same amount of procedural costs and has to shell out a whopping 1,500 francs.
In the summer of 2021, 27 of the around 90 people present had already been fined. According to the penalty order, most of the opponents had to pay 380 francs. The trio of organizers had challenged the penalty order.
Measure opponents demand acquittal
Everything about the case: The “Älpli” and the Corona skeptics(02:57)
The three skeptics could have implemented what was in store for them as early as October 2021. A first guest at the Älpli celebration was in court at this point after he had challenged his penalty order. Only: the judge let him be rebuffed in front of the district court. The consequences: The accused then had to pay more than three times the amount originally demanded in the penalty order.
The three opponents of the measures had asked for an acquittal. Barbara L.’s lawyer made a plea in which he tried to show alleged legal conflicts in the Corona Act. Around 30 corona skeptics appeared at the hearing. Her applause for the defender of the Älpli landlady did not change the judge’s verdict.
Barbara L. has already announced that she intends to take the verdict to the next instance. The judgments are not yet final.
