The numbers are only the tip of the iceberg, according to the joint statement by Pink Cross, the Swiss lesbian organization and the Transgender Network Switzerland on the International Day against LGBTI hostility.
According to the “Hate Crime Report” provided, most of the reported attacks were verbal abuse or destroyed rainbow flags. Around a third of the reported incidents involved physical violence. According to the statement, more than half of those reporting said they suffered from psychological problems as a result of the incident.
According to the LGBT umbrella organizations, the number of unreported attacks is enormous. They therefore call for a national record of crimes against people whose sexual orientation or gender identity does not correspond to the social norm. So far, attacks have only been recorded by the state in the city of Zurich and in the canton of Fribourg.
