As part of the annual siren test, sirens wailed across Switzerland on Wednesday afternoon. After the test for the general alarm, a test of the water alarm was planned from 2 p.m. in the near zones below the dams, as the Federal Office for Civil Protection (Babs) announced in advance. For the late afternoon, the Babs promised a balance of the test. The cantons and communes are required to repair or replace faulty sirens immediately.
In the event of a real siren alarm, the population is called upon to “listen to the radio, follow the instructions of the authorities and inform the neighbors”, as the Babs website says. The annual siren test takes place in Switzerland on the first Wednesday in February.
